Healing is not a linear journey, and our ongoing support services offer longer term care and connection.
We’re here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
Individual Counselling & Support Circles
We offer trauma-informed individual counselling and support groups (healing with other survivors lead by a counsellor/facilitator) designed to support as you work through the impact of the sexual violence you have faced.
Indigenous Support Program
We offer culturally affirming, survivor-centered services and ceremonies for Indigenous survivors and Urban Indigenous Communities.
We know that intergenerational trauma, disconnection from the land, and colonization have a lasting impact. To support your healing, we honour Indigenous ways of knowing, cultural practices, and traditions.
Legal & Reporting Support
We provide options and guidance to help you navigate police and court processes—whether you decide to report immediately, later, or not at all, we’re here to stand with you and explain your options.
What Is Sexualized Violence?
Sexualized violence is any act—physical, verbal, spiritual, or psychological—that uses sex or sexuality to exert power, control, or cause harm.
It exists on a spectrum, including harassment, coercion, grooming, assault, and other forms of harm that violate a person’s autonomy and dignity.
At Salal, we work to challenge these harms and support all survivors in ways that honour their experiences and identities.
While anyone can experience sexualized violence, women, Two Spirit, trans, and gender-diverse people face heightened risks due to systemic oppression, including misogyny, colonialism, white supremacy, transphobia, and homophobia. These systems enable violence and create barriers to justice and healing.
How Do You Know If What You Experienced Was Sexualized Violence?
You have every right to seek support if you feel unsafe, violated, or coerced.
Sexualized violence can take many forms, including:
Sexual abuse
Rape
Incest
Cyber harassment
Sexual exploitation
Spreading rumors about someone’s sexuality
Catcalling
Stalking
Indecent or sexualized exposure
Trafficking
Sexist jokes
Sharing images without consent
Coercion (guilt, threats, etc.)
Sexual assault
Degrading sexual imagery
Harassment
Voyeurism
Substance or alcohol-facilitated sexual assault
Our services are available to women, Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender diverse people, ages 14 and up, who have experienced sexualized violence.
We offer free confidential, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed support for every step of your healing journey.
Whether you need urgent help right now or ongoing care, we’re here to support you on your own terms.
Our approach is rooted in an intersectional feminist, decolonizing, and anti-oppressive lens framework.
Every staff member at Salal is committed to providing gender-affirming care.
We’ve also taken intentional steps to ensure our support is not only inclusive, but also affirming and responsive to the specific needs of Indigenous, Black, and peoples of colour, trans and gender diverse survivors, and sex workers, communities who continue to face additional systemic barriers when seeking support.
Whether you are accessing crisis support, counselling, groups, or advocacy services, you will be met with respect, dignity, and an understanding of the barriers Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse survivors often face.
You deserve support that sees you fully, and we are here to provide it.
