More than 40 individuals and organizations, including Salal, have come together to sign this open letter, calling for a shift in how human trafficking is addressed in British Columbia.
This letter raises concerns about recent enforcement actions by the RCMP’s Counter Human Trafficking Unit, highlighting how current approaches may be causing harm to sex workers rather than improving safety. It calls for a move away from punitive, enforcement-driven strategies and toward evidence-informed approaches that uphold human rights and reduce vulnerability to exploitation.
The signatories, including community organizations, researchers, and advocates, are urging government and law enforcement to adopt approaches grounded in dignity and trust.
