Salal Connect Terms of Use

Crisis text and chat support for survivors of sexual violence. 

Salal Connect is a confidential and specialized service for people who have experienced sexualized violence, their support people, and other allied professionals across BC. We do not provide emergency services and do not have police or ambulance capabilities. Please call 911 if you are in an immediate crisis.

Salal Connect offers support, information and referral to local services and resources; It does not provide therapy or clinical care.

1. We take your privacy seriously. Information discussed through Salal Connect text/chat is confidential and encrypted within the Izzy platform and Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre. Your use of Salal Connect will not be shared without your written permission except in the following situations:

  • Your information is subpoenaed by The Court. If subpoenaed, the following information will be available to The Court:
    • Phone number or IP Address;
    • Date(s) of chat/text;
    • City / Province (if specified by carrier)

    2. Salal Connect uses the Izzy platform to host its chat & text service. Izzy follows FIPPA/PHIPA/HIPAA compliant security processes. Chat data is end-to-end encrypted; Izzy cannot access or view Salal Connect’s chat transcripts. Encrypted chat transcripts are hosted on Izzy’s Canadian servers for 24 hours and then purged.

    3. By using our service, you agree to the following:

    • Individuals responding to your text/chat will be treated with respect, and comments of disrespect or discrimination will not be tolerated.
    • You will do your best to be responsive and present in the chat. If a chat is unresponsive for more than 10 minutes, it will automatically disconnect.
    • When your carrier’s standard messaging rates apply, you are responsible for all charges.
    • Izzy and Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre are not liable for any delayed or lost texts/chat messages.
